Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Dr. Ömer Kocaman participated in the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Almaty Process on Refugee Protection and International Migration that took place online on 28 March 2023.
Delegates from Azerbaijan, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan as well as the Secretariats from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) attended the meeting. 
The meeting focused on strategic direction of the Almaty Process to leverage regional partnerships in migration management and policy making.
The Senior Officials’ Meeting also presented the retrospective of the Almaty Process Activities implemented during the Chairmanship of the Republic of Türkiye in 2021-2022 and focused on the essentiality of continuous multilateral dialogue on migration management and refugee protection. 
The Republic of Azerbaijan took over the Chairmanship of the Almaty Process for the years 2023-2024
The Observer Status of the Republic of Italy and the Organization of Turkic States was submitted for consideration of the Almaty Process Member States while the Republic of Uzbekistan has expressed its willingness to become a full Member State.
