The "Boysun Bahori" International Folklore Festival has been kicked off in Surkhandarya, Uzbekistan, which will last until 7 May 2024.
Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Mr. Mirvokhid Azimov together with the Governor of Surhandarya Region Mr. Ulugbek Kasimov and the Deputy Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan Mr. Murod Majidov attended the opening of exhibitions, tourist infrastructure and hotel complexes, followed by the official inauguration of the Festival.
This colorful program promises a rich tapestry of cultural delights. The festival aims to promote tourism through captivating performances by folklore ethnographic teams, exhilarating national sports games, a wide variety of shows and mesmerizing concert programs representing numerous countries. Over 200 representatives from folklore groups across Uzbekistan participate in this event, adorned in traditional costumes and echoing the melodies of the past.
Located in the Surkhandarya region, Boysun stands as a testament to cultural heritage. Recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of the "Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity," Baysun was included in the UNESCO Representative List of "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" in 2008.
