Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States convened a meeting in Istanbul.
The permanent advisory body of the Organization of Turkic States, the Council of Elders convened its 12th Meeting on 9-11 February 2022 in Istanbul.
Hosted by Secretary General of the OTS H.E. Baghdad Amreyev and chaired by H.E. Binali Yıldırım, Chairman of the Council of Elders, MP and, former Speaker of Grand National Assembly and Prime Minister of the Republic of Türkiye the meeting was attended by H.E. Hasan Hasanov, Former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Ikram Adyrbek, Member of the Council of Senators of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Member of Public Council of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Medetkhan Sherimkulov, Former Speaker of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, and H.E. Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev, Chairman of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Youth, Culture and Sport as newly appointed  Elders by Member States.
At the inauguration of the meeting, Secretary General Baghdad Amreyev congratulated newly appointed Elders and stated that they can play a significant role in increasing the visibility of the Organization and enrich its intellectual potential with their wisdom, experience and knowledge.
Chairman of the Council of Elders Binali Yıldırım, in his opening speech, referred to the worldwide developing accountability and prestige as well as the institutional capacity of OTS and underlined the strengthened status of the Council of Elders within the Organization, which will enable the Council to contribute to the various fields of cooperation among the Member and Observer States.
The Council of Elders had discussions on various topics including the recently updated and adopted Regulation of the Council and had exchange of views on the various topics on the agenda of the Organization,  such as Turkic World Capitals Initiative, Turkic World Youth Initiatives, the opening program of Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World  for 2022, the 4th World Nomad Games to be organized in Iznik, Bursa this year, the work of the Turkic Universities Union particularly the Orkhun Exchange Program as well as the preparations of the Common History, Geography and Literature Textbooks.
Following the discussions and deliberations, a set of recommendations were agreed by the Council of Elders, which is to be reflected in a protocol and presented to the Organization of Turkic States.
The Council of Elders also expressed their gratification with the role of the Secretary General and Secretariat in mainstreaming the cooperation and coordination among the OTS Member and Observer States.
The Council of Elders agreed to hold the next Meeting of the Elders in Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan in July 2022.
Last day of the meeting, the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization of Turkic States, President of Türkiye H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received the members of the Council of Elders and the Secretary General of the OTS in Istanbul on February 11, 2022.
In the meeting that was also attended by Hasan Doğan, Chief of Cabinet of President of Türkiye, İbrahim Kalın, Spokesperson and Special Adviser to the President of Türkiye as well as Fahrettin Altun, Head of Media and Communications in the Turkish Presidency, decisions and outcomes of the last Istanbul Summit of the Organization and the agenda of first meeting of the newly appointed Council of Elders as well as the ongoing cooperation in the Turkic World in various areas were discussed.
