Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Dr. Ömer Kocaman participated in the International Scientific Conference entitled ‘Transition of the Kazakh language into Latin script: development of the state language in terms of globalization`, organized by Kh. Dosmukhamedov, Atyrau University in cooperation with the akimat of Atyrau on 5 June 2018.
Scientists from Europe, the Middle East, CIS countries and experts from Kazakhstan attended the Conference and discussed the issues in three sessions organized within the Conference namely; "the role o latin graphics in global communication in the context of globalization”, “Transition of Kazakh language to Latin alphabet: world practice and scientific methodological principles”, “Modernization of public consiousness: the state language and issues of innovative methodology”.
Significant steps are being taken in the process of transition to the Latin alphabet in Kazakhstan, where the transition to the Latin alphabet will be progressively achieved until 2025, and from 2018, textbooks will be printed with the new Kazakh alphabet. During the Conference which is held in parallel to these important developments, the experts pointed out the importance of this process in terms of linguistic, informational, social, cultural, philosophical and hitorical phenomena, taking into account the role of translating Kazakh alpahabet from Cyrillic to Latin graphics in the development of the state language.
During the Conference, Deputy Secretary General Dr. Kocaman delivered a speech and expressed satisfaction with the decisive attitude of Kazakhstan in its transition from the Cyrillic alphabet to the Latin alphabet, under the leadership of President H.E. Nursultan Nazarbayev, and stated that the Turkic Council will always continue to support this process. Deputy Secretary General Dr. Kocaman also informed the participants about the projects carried out by the Council, especially in the fields of language and education. He also held bilateral meetings with the authorities of the host university and participating scientists.
The Conference will conclude with a plenary session to be held on 6 June 2018.
