The ceremony of launching the digital TIR project between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States took place in Uzbekistan on 18 March 2022 with the partnership of Customs Authorities of both countries and the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
The event was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Mukhtorov, Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Saliev, Deputy Secretary General of the OTS Mirvokhid Azimov, Senior Adviser of IRU Vakhtang Zarandia, as well as representatives of associations of international road carriers of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
During his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary General Mirvokhid Azimov underlined that at the Istanbul Summit held on 12 November 2021, the Heads of State instructed the relevant institutions of the member countries to continue creating favorable conditions for the transformation of the Trans-Caspian International East-West Middle Corridor into a more efficient, sustainable and uninterrupted route.
He also recalled the Istanbul Declaration, where the Presidents called for the simplification of customs and transport procedures, including through the introduction of digital instruments. In this regard, Deputy Secretary General Azimov highlighted that the OTS fully supports the speedy computerization of the entire TIR system and encourages the further extension of the digital TIR to other member and observer countries.
The parties expressed confidence that the Project will make a worthy contribution to strengthening good-neighborliness between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, developing and expanding transport links between the countries of the Turkic world, and boosting regional trade.
Following the event, the participants also witnessed the opening of a new border customs terminal at border crossing point “Dustlik” of Uzbekistan, which aims to pave the way for facilitating customs procedures and increasing trade turnover between the two countries.
