First Meeting of the Working Group on Alternative Energy of the Turkic Council was convened on 22 April 2016 in Istanbul.
The First Meeting of the Working Group on Alternative Energy of the Turkic Council (hereinafter referred to as WGoAE) was convened on 22 April 2016 in Istanbul, the Republic of Turkey in line with the instructions of the Heads of States given at the 5th Summit of the Turkic Council held in Astana on 11 September 2015.

Delegations from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Turkey took part in the meeting.

Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ömer Kocaman welcoming the participants of the 1st meeting of WGoAE informed the participants about the purposes of the organization and its mechanisms of cooperation among the Member States.

The delegations shared the information on the current situations in their respective governments regarding the development of the alternative energy sources. It can be outlined that all Member States have huge renewable energy potentials, particularly from wind, solar and small hydropower stations. However, the renewable energy production accounts for small portion of all power installations in the Member States.

Creation of favourable investment climate in the Member States for renewable energy sources and the current situations of the legislations to this end in the Member States were shared by the participants. It can be defined that the Member States are in favour to attracting investments to this field.

It was agreed to convene a second meeting of the WGoAE in the end of 2016 and to identify the specific areas of cooperation among the Member States at that meeting.
