First Turkic Council University Sports Games (Turkic Universiade), co-organized by the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will be held on 5-10 April 2018 in Baku.
The aim of the Games is to bring together and socialize the young athletes of the countries sharing the same history and cultural heritage through the unifying power of sports, as well as to strengthen ties of friendship and fraternity among the youngsters and brotherly societies.
The opening ceremony of the Games will be held on 6 April 2018 in Baku Sports Hall at 19:00 with the participation of the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, Ambassadors of Member States to Baku, diplomatic corps operating in Baku, Rectors, Secretary General of TURKPA, President of Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, local senior officials and wide involvement of viewers and supporters. Approximately 400 university athletes and coaches from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey will be attending the event. The closing ceremony of the Games, which will be organized in 7 different sports branches, will be held on 9 April 2018.
Turkic Council University Sports Games (Turkic Universiade) will be organized every two years with widespread participation from the Turkic world.
