International Conference dedicated to Kokand Khanate was held in Uzbekistan

An international conference entitled "The Role of the Kokand Khanate in the Development of Statehood and Cultural Heritage of the Turkic peoples" was organized in Kokand on June 8-10, 2022 by the Organization of Turkic States and the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan in close cooperation with a number of higher education institutions of Uzbekistan.

Hosted by Kokand University, the event was organized within the framework of the “Tabarruk Ziyarat” "initiative put forward by the President of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Turkistan Summit and in line with the announcement of Kokand as the "Tourism Capital of the Turkic World".

The conference was attended by the OTS and TURKSOY and more than 30 scholars from universities and research institutes of the Member and Observer States, in particular, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Hungary, and other countries, including South Korea, USA and Tajikistan, as well as over 70 representatives of local academia (in total more than 100 participants).

Attending the opening ceremony of the conference with a keynote speech, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Minister of Tourism and Cultural Heritage Aziz Abdukhakimov welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the conference for cultivating new impetus to scientific research on the unexplored aspects of the history of the statehood of the Turkic peoples.

In his welcoming speech, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev emphasized that the cultural values of the Khanate of Kokand as well as of similar ancient cities of the Turkic World which are known for their rich history and culture must be unveiled and widely introduced to the world through such conferences.

Deputy Secretary General of OTS Mirvokhid Azimov delivered a speech at the conference where he expressed confidence that the event would contribute to further expanding joint activities on researching and popularizing our common history and cultural legacy around the world, strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties, and deepening solidarity among the Turkic people.

The opening session was followed by four thematic sessions dedicated to the history of the Kokand Khanate where scholars presented their scientific analyses and findings and held extensive discussions on various aspects of political, economic and cultural life in the Kokand Khanate.
