President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev arrived in Azerbaijan for an official visit between 30-31 March 2012. President Almazbek Atambayev and his spouse Raisa Atambayeva were welcomed by Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Following the official welcoming ceremony, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva had a joint meeting with visiting President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev and his spouse Raisa Atambayeva. Then, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Almazbek Atambayev of Kyrgyzstan met in private.

In the course of talks  both leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relationships between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan in various fields. It was stressed availability of good potential for further expansion of ties between the two countries.

The importance of Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev`s official visit to Azerbaijan for strengthening cooperation between the two countries was highlighted at the meeting.

During the short visit, the two countries also signed six accords, including agreements on tax legislation, drug control, culture, and emergency management. Kyrgyzstan also agreed to support Azerbaijan’s bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Atambayev also delivered a speech to the Azerbaijani parliament and met with the parliamentary speaker.
