The message of Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, Secretary General of the Turkic Council was delivered to the launch event of the UNDP Report on Journeys to Extremism in Africa: Drivers, Incentives and the Tipping Point for Recruitment that took place on 2 November 2017 in Istanbul.  Project Directors Pelin Musabay Baki, Zyldyz Uzokava and Ceyhun Shahverdiyev represented the Council at the said event where the presentation of a photography book and the photo exhibition on the stories of survivors from violent extremism in Sub-Saharan Africa were also featured. 

 

At the message that was read by Project Director Pelin Musabay Baki, Secretary General Hasanov congratulated UNDP for preparing such a comprehensive and evidence-based report that puts forward the root causes of the rising violent extremism penetrated in the African continent offering the remedies on how to eradicate them with a tailor-made approach. He added that as a responsible international actor, in its relevant activities, the Turkic Council keeps being vocal on the fact that violent extremism profoundly impacts the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal.

 

Referring to the outcomes of the international conference that the Turkic Council co-hosted with UNAOC partnering with UNDP and UNOSSC in October 2016 with the participation of 300 young leaders coming from 40 countries from Africa to Asia, he underlined that the Council values the empowerment of young men and women for their transformation into key actors in the prevention efforts. 

 

Based on the outcomes of the abovementioned international conference and in the implementation process of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two organizations, in his message,  Secretary General Hasanov reiterated the commitment of the Turkic Council to closely cooperate with UNDP on the implementation of the joint projects  in this area such as “PVE Online Academy” that  prevails on their common agenda.
