Message of the Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, Secretary General of Turkic Council on the occasion of May 9, the `Victory Day`

I would like to celebrate the “Victory Day”, the triumph day over the Nazism.

On this special day, I want to pay tribute to those who defended our homeland against invaders without sparing their lives. An enormous price was paid to achieve the victory in this dreadful and terrible war during which there was not a single family that had not experienced a loss of relatives and friends.

A great number of people from Turkic Council Member States Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan took part in this bloody conflict. Over 600 thousand Azerbaijanis, 300 thousand Kyrgyzstanis and 1,200 million Kazakhstanis were conscripted as soldiers. Almost half of the conscripts from Azerbaijan, more than half conscripts from Kazakhstan and about 80 thousand conscripts from Kyrgyzstan had not return from the frontline. Around 700 people from the three republics were nominated to receive the order of Hero of the Soviet Union, which indicates the relevance of the courage of the Turkic soldiers who were defending the life of their people, as well as the freedom and independence of their countries.

Once again, on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Victory over Nazi invaders I would like to celebrate veterans from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan who not only defended their homeland, but also rebuilt our countries from the ruins for the sake of peace and happiness of the future generations.

On behalf of the Turkic Council and on my own behalf, I commemorate all the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in this cruel war with respect and mercy, and wish peace, health, happiness and prosperity to all the Turkic people.

The Secretary General of the Turkic Council Ambassador Ramil Hasanov
