I seriously condemn the coup attempt of some military elements against the Turkish people, Turkey’s democratically elected government, the constitutional institutions and the rule of law. I am greatly saddened by the loss of innocent lives of the Turkish people who sacrificed their lives in defense of their country and future. Their determination and courage was beyond measure and will not be forgotten.
In my capacity as the Secretary General of the Turkic Council and based on the founding Nakhchivan Agreement of the Turkic Council, I underscore the importance of ensuring the rule of law and good governance and guaranteeing human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with generally recognized principles and norms of international law. I also highlight the need to respect the national will of the Turkish people and to protect their freedoms.
Wishing God’s mercy to the martyrs, patience to their relatives and speedy recovery to the wounded ones, I wish swift return to normalcy in Turkey, which has always been the backbone of the cooperation among the Turkic Speaking Countries.
