Date of January 20, 1990 is one of the heroic pages of the independence struggle and resistance of the Azerbaijani people. Desiring not to be part of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijani people, in spite of being unarmed, confronted Soviet troops and defended its independence and territorial integrity. As a result of continuing decisive and determined struggle for the independence, Azerbaijan gained its independence in 1991.
We commemorate all the martyrs who lost their lives at this tragic event with deep respect and mercy.
