Press Release Regarding the participation of Turkic Council in observation of the Presidential Election in the Republic of Azerbaijan

Regarding the participation of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) in observation of the Presidential Election in the Republic of Azerbaijan, October 9, 2013 
 
Upon invitation, the Joint Election Observation Mission of the Turkic Council monitored the Presidential Election in Azerbaijan on October 9, 2013.
 
Turkic Council’s Joint Mission carried out its observation activities in various non-occupied and mostly Internally Displaced Persons (IDP)-settled villages of Aghdam district of Karabakh.   
The Mission was comprised of the members of the Turkic Council Secretariat, as well as representatives from the member states, namely, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey.
 
The Observation Mission was conducted in 24 polling stations out of 42 existing in the region.  
 
It was noted that Turkic Council Observation Mission was the only international observer mission acting in the region.
 
The Observation Mission notes that the election process in the non-occupied parts of the Aghdam region was carried out succesfully in compliance with the international norms.
 
This observation mission was the third mission commissioned by the Turkic Council to observe elections in its Member States. Previously, Turkic Council’s joint observation missions monitored the Presidential Election in Kyrgyzstan’s Osh city in October 2011 and Parliamentary Election in Kazakhstan’s South Kazakhstan Province in January 2012.
