Project Director Pelin Musabay Baki participated in the event of World Humanitarian Day and the preparatory meeting to 2016 World Humanitarian Summit
As a representative of Ambassador Ramil Hasanov, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council, Project Director of the Turkic Council Pelin Musabay Baki participated in the event for celebrating the World Humanitarian Day co-hosted by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) under the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey and United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on 19 August 2015 in Istanbul.
The opening ceremony of the event that was also a preparatory meeting to the first ever World Humanitarian Summit to be held on 23-24 May 2016 in Istanbul was started with the video message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
After the opening addresses of Gwi-Yeop Son, UN OCHA Director of Division of Corporate Programmes, Kamal Malhotra, UN Turkey Resident Coordinator, Ambassador Hasan Ulusoy, Director General For Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and Dr. Fuat Oktay, Afad President, countdown ceremony for World Humanitarian Summit was materialized.
Following the panel session on "Humanitarian Crisis, Conflicts and Challenges of Humanitarian System", the event was concluded.
2016 Work Humanitarian Summit is an initiative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to render the humanitarian aid activities more comprehensive, definable and appropriate to the circumstances of 21st century.
Turkic Council aims at enhancing its already existing cooperation with UN and its relevant agencies on this particular subject matter as well.
