Rectors from Turkic countries establish Turkic University Union
The First Preparatory Meeting of Turkic University Union was held under the auspices of Turkic Council in Istanbul on March 28-29, 2013. The meeting was attended by rectors and prorectors of founder universities from member states of the Turkic Council, namely, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku State University, Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Karasayev Bishkek Humanities University, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, International University of Kyrgyzstan, Balasagun Kyrgyz National University, Ataturk University, Ege University, and Istanbul University, as well as by representatives of Turkey’s Council of Higher Education. 
 
The meeting opened with the addresses by Turkic Council Secretary General Halil Akinci and Rector of Istanbul University Prof. Dr. Yunus Soylet. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Isen, the member of Turkic Council’s Council of Elders, also delivered a speech during the meeting. 
 
Participants established the Turkic University Union and elected Ataturk University as its first chairman. The second preparatory meeting of the University Union will be held in Bishkek on May 29 this year.
