Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) H.E. Baghdad Amreyev participated and delivered his remarks at the High-level Meeting on Sustainable Mountain Development organized by the Kyrgyz Republic and the Secretariat of Mountain Partnership on 19 September 2022 in Levington Hotel in New York on the margins of the 77th UN General Assembly. 
The meeting was hosted by the Adviser to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Almazbek Isanov on behalf of the President H.E. Sadyr Zhaparov, and participated by the Minister of Education of Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Beyshenaliev, high-level representatives from the member countries to Mountain Partnership as well as the Friends of Mountain Countries established within United Nations (UN) including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, H.E. Vladimir Norov, and Senior Officials of international organizations working in sustainable mountain development, including Deputy Secretary-General of UN, Ms. Amina Mohammed, Director of FAO, Mr. Qu Dongyu, Executive Director of UN Environment Program, Ms. Inger Andersen. They addressed the participants of the meeting and shared their views on future actions to tackle the problems and challenges of mountain countries are facing with the impact of climate change. 
Secretary General B. Amreyev in his address, underlined that there is an urgent need to ensure the ecological health and economic and social development of mountain areas for the benefit of both mountain residents and people living in lowland areas. Noting the leading role of Kyrgyzstan in promoting the mountain agenda, developing the Five-Year Plan Concept and numerous events held by the Kyrgyz side, B. Amreyev stressed the importance of pursuing this work through the joint efforts of international community and expressed support for Kyrgyz side, who initiated a new resolution of the UN General Assembly on mountain issues.
Having noted the increased recognition that the relevance of mountain for the sustainable development agenda has gotten, OTS Secretary General stated efforts are still needed to support sustainable development of mountainous countries and to protect their fragile ecosystems and their water-related functions. He also provided the participants with the Organization’s unertakings on the issue and proposed a set of result-oriented measures to tackle the impact of climate change on mountain countries.
