Secretary General of the Turkic Council Baghdad Amreyev continued his visit in New York on the occasion of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly where he held a meeting with Deputy Director, UNDP Europe and the CIS Mr. Rastislav Vrbensky on 26 September 2017. During the meeting, Parties expressed their commitment to enhance cooperation between the two institutions under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2016 through concrete projects.

Mr. Vrbensky greeted Ambassador Amreyev at the UNDP Headquarter in New York and expressed his confidence that appointment of Ambassador Amreyev will bring new momentum to the relations between the Turkic Council and UNDP on a broad range of issues.

Secretary General Amreyev expressed his gratitude to the UNDP for its support given to the activities of the Turkic Council in the field of development and stated that he welcomes the preparations of the two institutions for the establishment of an Online PVE Academy in preventing the youth from violent extremism. Secretary General said that cooperation in this area will contribute greatly to overcoming the problems encountered in the region. He also underlined that cooperation between the two institutions might be possible in the fields of information and communication technologies (ICT), sustainable tourism and alternative energy.

Stating that the contributions of the Turkic Council towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should be met with appreciation, Mr. Verbinsky indicated that a crucial gap in combating extremism in the region would be filled with the realization of the above-mentioned Academy.

Turkic Council Project Directors Assan Mazhitov and Ali Çiviler accompanied Secretary General Amreyev during the meeting.
