During the visit Secretary General inspected civil settlements that were destructed as a result of rocket shelling of Armenian armed forces in Ganja city, which is about 60 kilometers away from the Nagorno-Karabakh frontline.
At the press conference with media representatives, the Secretary General stated that the organization is closely following the development of the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region since the beginning of hostilities. He said that the Turkic-speaking countries, the Turkic world and the Turkic Council unconditionally support the legitimate right of Azerbaijan to return its occupied lands back, which is reflected in all international documents, particularly in 4 related resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding an immediate, unconditional and full withdrawal of the armed forces of Armenia from all the occupied territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Secretary General noted that many international organizations including the OSCE, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and especially the Turkic Council have adopted a number of declarations and decisions that emphasize the legitimate right of Azerbaijan to restore its sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Secretary General expressed his concern on the escalation of the military conflict and mentioned that this is a patriotic war for brotherly Azerbaijani people and the Turkic World stands by Azerbaijan in this critical period.
He stressed that the Turkic Council at the same time since reaffirmes its support to the peacefull solution of the conflict and peace negotioations on the basis of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In this context, The Secretary General condemned the rocket fire on Ganja, and noted that the civilian population should not be subjected to shelling, which cannot be justified by anything. He once again called on the international community to strongly condemn Armenia’s attacks on civilians in Azerbaijan’s city of Ganja.
He extended his sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims over the loss of lives, wished a speedy recovery of the injured, and noted that civilians should not suffer from attack during hostilities.
