It is with great sorrow that we learnt of the demise of HE Süleyman Demirel, 9th President of the Republic of Turkey.
H.E. Süleyman Demirel who had the honour of co-hosting the First Summit Meeting of the Presidents of the Turkic Speaking Countries in 1992 and consequently contributed to consolidating the independence of the Turkic states, had a significant role in the steps taken towards cooperation in the Turkic world alongside the valuable services he rendered to Turkey.
On behalf of the Turkic Council Secretariat and on my own behalf, I would like to extend our condolences to the people of Turkey, the whole Turkic world and the family of the departed. May he rest in peace.
