The First Summit of Turkic Council was held in Almaty on October 20-21, 2011 with the participation of the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey's Prime Minister.
TURKSOY Secretary General Dyusen Kasseinov and the Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) Ramil Hassanov attended the Summit as well.
The high-level meeting focused on urgent international and regional issues, key priorities of extension of trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Turkic Speaking States. The main purpose of the meeting was to consolidate a state of mutual trust and confidence in the Turkic world, reinforce political solidarity, improve economic and technical cooperation, enhance popular relations and keep a record of the history and cultural accumulation of the Turkic world.
A final document - the Almaty Declaration – was signed upon the completion of the meeting.
The document outlines the position of the Turkic Speaking States on economic, security, social, cultural issues as well as on cooperation within different international organizations.
Thus, the Almaty Declaration confirms the intention of Turkic States to develop relations in the fields of economy and trade based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit and to enlarge cooperation in all fields including industry, agriculture, transport, communication, water and energy issues, alternative energy and tourism.
It was decided to hold the Second Summit of the Cooperation Council of the Turkic Speaking States in Kyrgyzstan in 2012 under the topic of “Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation”.
