Upon the invitation received from the Central Commission for holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan, the Organization of Turkic States International Election Observation Mission, consisted of the officials from the Secretariat, has observed the elections of deputies of Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of velayat, etrap, city halk maslahats and gengeshes on 26 March 2023.
In prior to the elections, the Mission had a meeting with H.E. Gulmurad Muradov, Chairman of the Central Commission. At the meeting, Chairman Muradov briefed the Mission regarding the preparations and phases of the election process in a detailed manner.
At the Election Day, the Mission conducted the observation of the voting process in 8 polling stations in Ashgabat and Akhal velayet, in accordance with the national election legislation of Turkmenistan. The Mission further followed the elections in other provinces of Turkmenistan through online regime.
A press conference held on 27 March 2023 with the participation of the national and international media outlets and the assessment of the Mission on the elections was shared by Deputy Secretary General Mirvokhid Azimov.
According to the statement made by the Deputy Secretary General Azimov, the International Election Observation Mission of the Organization of Turkic States affirmed that the Parliamentary Elections of Turkmenistan was complied with the national legislation of Turkmenistan as well as the internationally recognized election standards and practices.
On this occasion, Organization of Turkic States sincerely congratulates Turkmenistan and the brotherly Turkmen people for the successful organization of the elections and express its belief that the results of the elections will further strengthen the inseparable ties within the Turkic World.
