After Turkey, the second fam, trip the second phase of the Modern Silk Road Joint Tour Package, continued in Azerbaijan between 16-19 May 2017. The delegation consisting of foreign journalists, media representatives from Turkic Council Member States, as well as from France, Germany, Iran, Singapore, USA and officials of tour operators and bloggers participated in the said trip.

After landing in Ganja, the delegation visited Naftalan “Garabag Resort and SPA” to get familiarized with famous Naftalan oil bath. Afterward, they visited Nizami Mausoleum, Imamzade Mosque, Shrine of the last Khan of Ganja “Javad Khan”, museum of “Mahsati Ganjavi” and got acquainted with the local cuisine. The trip continued to Sheki, the city of silk located along the traditional Silk Road.

After the visit to Albanian Church, the Karavan Saray, the Khan Sarai and the other local historical places in Sheki the delegation continued its journey to Baku. On the way to Baku, they paid a visit to the Qobustan archeological museum. In Baku, the delegation was introduced to the architecture of Old city and visited various museums.

At the press conference, which held on 19 May 2017 Turkic Council Project Director Ceyhun Şahverdiyev, Chief of Tourism Sector from Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mahir Qahramanov, General Manager of A la Carte Travel Nasib Usubov provided information about the scope and content of the project and emphasized that the project`s main objective is to revitalize the traditional Silk Road route as a tourism destination. They also reported on the Azerbaijan section of the fam trip which lasted for three days, during which the historical and cultural beauties of Gence, Naftalan, Sheki, Qobustan and Baku were visited.

Project Director Ceyhun Şahverdiyev underlined that according to the initial studies, more than 1 million tourists are expected to visit the Modern Silk Road destination until 2023 and the Joint Tour Package is planned to be sold during the Nawruz feast in 2018.

The delegation departed from Baku to Almaty to continue discovering the cultural and historical milestones of the Silk Road in Kazakhstan.
