The workshop on the preparation of textbooks on Common Turkic History, Literature and Geography was held in Istanbul

In continuation of the previous efforts for the preparation of the textbooks “Common Turkic History”, “Geography of the Turkic World” and “Common Turkic Literature” made by the International Turkic Academy a three-day joint workshop was held in Istanbul on May 16-18, 2022.

H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Ms Petek Aşkar, Deputy Minister of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye and Mr. Darkhan Kydyrali, President of the International Turkic Academy were present at the workshop, attended the opening session together with large numbers of officials from the Ministries of Education of the Parties and scholars from various universities of the Turkic world.

Addressing the audience, the Secretary pointed out that, Organization of Turkic States attaches great importance to the completion of the work of  preparation of the textbooks “Common Turkic History”, “Geography of the Turkic World” and “Common Turkic Literature and inclusion of the mentioned books at the national curricula of the Member States at the earliest possible time.

Mentioning the significance of raising young generations with awareness of the shared past of the Turkic countries and peoples, Deputy Minister Aşkar pointed out that there is a huge attention on the part of the Turkish youngsters in Türkiye to take the elective course of common history, with 48000 8th grade students that took the course this year, a strike upsurge in the number when compared last year.

President of the International Turkic Academy, Darkhan Kydyrali expressed his gratitude for the laborious work of the experts of the Member States and International Turkic Academy for the preparation of the textbooks, underlined the active participation in the workshop. He expressed the need for the early publication of textbooks and their inclusion in the educational systems of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States for upbringing generations bearing sensitivities to the Turkic heritage.

After three-day intense joint work, Parties have made requisite corrections and adjustments and reached an agreement on the final states of the common history, literature and geography textbooks.
