President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, who was making his official visit to Turkey on 11th and 12th October 2012, and President of Turkey Abdullah Gul participated in the official opening ceremony of the Turkic Council Headquarters. The ceremony was held on 12th October and was attended by many prominent bureaucrats, diplomats, academicians and businessmen.
Turkic Secretary Halil Akinci, Presidents Abdullah Gul and Nursultan Nazarbayev delivered speeches during the ceremony. President Gul reminded that a truly historic decision was made in Nakhichevan in 2009. He pointed out that it was an import step in institutionalizing the previously unsystematic efforts. President Gul also praised the role President Nazarbayev played in achieving the present level of cooperation among Turkic States.
Following the speeches, Presidents Nazarbayev and Gul attended the actual raising of the Flag. After the Flags of the Member States were raised, Presidents Nazarbayev and Gul together raised the Flag of the Turkic Council.
