Turkic Council International Election Observation Mission started monitoring the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Turkic Council International Election Observation Mission headed by the Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Dr. Omer Kocaman started monitoring the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 19 December 2019 as two groups in Tashkent and Samarkand. The delegations of International Election Observation Mission comprised of the officials of the Turkic Council Secretariat, as well as Members of Parliament, the Central Election Committee representatives and academicians of the Member States other than Uzbekistan.

In the framework of pre-election contacts, members of the delegations met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Ilhom Nematov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr. Makhmoud Istamov, Chairman of the Election Commission of Samarkand District Mr. Salohiddin Nuriyev, as well as with the Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, and representatives of the political parties in two cities.

Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Ilhom Nematov gave detailed account of information on the ongoing reforms in the country, new electoral code, participation of international observer missions in the election, and preparations for the voting process for the Uzbek citizens living abroad.

The delegations received detailed information on the electoral process dedicated to the motto of “New Uzbekistan, New Elections”, the novelties brought by the new Electoral Code, administrative preparations and measures taken in the framework of the electoral process as well as the campaigning activities of the political parties.

During the meetings, the delegations got acquainted with the preparations of Central and Territorial Election Commissions and the political parties for the Parliamentary Elections scheduled to take place on 22 December 2019.

Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Dr. Omer Kocaman, Representative of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Tahir Guliyev, Representative of the Central Election Committee of Kyrgyzstan Mirlan Konurbayev, Assistant Professor at Medeniyet University of Turkey Veysel Kurt, and Project Director Ali Civiler participated in the meetings in Tashkent.

Member of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic Nazarali Aripov, Project Directors of the Turkic Council Zhyldyz Uzakova, Ozge Pan and Farrukh Jumayev took part in the meetings held in Samarkand.

Turkic Council Observation Mission will monitor the elections on 22 December by visiting the polling stations in Tashkent and Samarkand and submit its report to the Member States and relevant International Organizations in the aftermath of the Parliamentary Election.

The Mission will also hold a Press Conference on 23 December 2019 in Tashkent to share its assessment concerning the Election with national and international media outlets.
