Turkic Council Project Director Ozge Pan participated in the First OIC Member States Conference on Mediation with the theme of “Surge in Mediation: The Role of the OIC” jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and the OIC on 21 November 2017 in Istanbul.

As the OIC, with its comprehensive membership structure is uniquely positioned to contribute immensly to the development of the practice and normative basis of mediation and has been an active player on the field to resolve various conflicts, the goal of the first ever OIC Member States Conference on Mediation was to further explore the strengths of the Organization.

The opening speeches of the Conference were delivered by H.E. Ahmet Yildiz, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey and H.E. Abdallah Alim, Assistant Secretary General of the OIC for Political Affairs.

The Conference, with the participation of senior officials and experts from Member States, OIC institutions and international organizations was convened in the format of 3 panels namely on perspectives on the role of the OIC in mediation, means to enhance this role and the elements of a road map.
