He briefed the participants about the activities of the Turkic Council in the fight against COVID-19, Extraordinary Video Summit of the Turkic Council and Meeting of the Ministers of Health and established permanent mechanisms by the organization as a result of those meetings: - “Health Coordination Committee” for coordinating all health cooperation areas, “Supply Chain Group” for providing each other with medicine and medical equipment and a “Health Scientific Group” for exchanging experience among medical professionals.
Secretary General also touched upon relations with WHO, and expressed his strong support to the proposal of WHO European Regional Office to unite efforts of regional multilateral institutions and mechanisms around health as one of the key objectives of the European Programme of Work (2020–2025) – “United Action for Better Health in Europe”.
Referencing to the recently signed MoU on cooperation with WHO, Baghdad Amreyev emphasized that the Turkic Council is ready to coordinate and support all the efforts not only in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic but also in the post-pandemic period in the other areas of the health sector, and will develop concrete projects together with the WHO European Office in related spheres of health.
Health ministers and high-level representatives of the 53 Member States of the WHO European Region as well as partner organizations and civil society connected to discuss health issues on 14–15 September 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 70th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe (RC70) held virtually for the first time ever with the following agenda:
-the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and lessons learned, both globally and regionally;
-the new European Programme of Work 2020–2025 “United action for better health”;
-transformation in the Region.
At the end of today’s discussion, the ministers of health and public health leaders endorsed a new 5-year vision, the European Programme of Work (EPW) 2020–2025, that sets down how WHO/Europe and its Member States will work together to meet citizens’ expectations for health.
