Secretary General visited some of the most remarkable sights of Samarkand, such as Gur-Emir Mausoleum, Registan Square, Bibi Khanum Mosque, Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, Ulugbek Observatory, Memorial Complex of al-Bukhari and ancient settlement Afrasiab, ruled by the legendary Turkic king of Turan Afrasiab (Alp Er Tonga). Baghdad Amreyev visited the mausoleum of the great Islamic theologian, hadith scholar, scientist and author of “Al-Jomiy as-Sahih” Imam al-Bukhari and read a dua for his soul.
Following the tour, the Secretary General gave an interview to the local media where he shared his impressions about the cultural and historical heritage of the city, whic is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia, a crossroad and melting pot of the world's cultures.
He noted that over the centuries, this ancient and majestic city played a very important role in the history of the development of trade, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, and ideological ties between various civilizations of the world.
He stressed that for the Turkic peoples it is a pride that Samarkand is located in their homeland - in the center of ancient Turan and Turkestan. Baghdad Amreyev noted that “He was deeply impressed by the historical and cultural sights of Samarkand, which were built in two Renaissance in Central Asia, during which the best minds and scientists made a huge contribution to the development of world science”.
Calling Samarkand one of the most importat centres of the Turkic civilization Secretary General noted that Turkic Council is ready to familirize the cultural and historical heritage and the tourist brand of Samarkand, as well as take an active part in organizing several cultural and humanitarian events.
Underlining that the architecture of Samarkand is a unique civilizational heritage not only of the Turkic world but also of the whole world, commended the ongoing work and measures being taken for the development of Samarkand’s infrastructure and tourism potential and emphasized that Turkic Council will contribute the promotion of this city in the international arena.
