Customs authorities from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Georgia, as well as International Road Transport Union (IRU), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) took part in the program.
The objective of the regional training program was to bring together the representatives of customs administrations, road transport associations, as well as relevant international organizations to exchange views on establishing the e-TIR system in the region.
In their addresses, Deputy Secretary General of Turkic Council, Mr. Gismat Gozalov and Deputy Head of International Agreements and EU, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Osman Nuri Beyhan emphasized that the Turkic Council Member States are located on major international transport corridors connecting Europe and Asia, extending from the borders of the European Union to the borders of China.
They noted that Turkey has been successfully implementing e-TIR pilot projects with neighboring countries, and invited other Member States, mainly the countries along the Trans Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) to establish TIR and e-TIR systems for the simplification customs and transit procedures, inter alias by the digitalization of transit operations in the region.
During the program, representatives of customs administrations of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Georgia presented their national transit systems, priority areas and perspectives of future cooperation in the field of transit and transportation. Regional representatives also shared the international experiences and practices projection in use of the Transit Systems, TIR and e-TIR applications, as well as new aspects of modernization of transit systems and other regional transit initiatives.
